Friendly URLs Install Error 4.0.0 Beta 3

I'm just installing SilverStripe. I had 3.6.2 working on a Windows 2016 server, PHP 7.1 and Apache 2.4. I decided to try out 4.0.0 Beta 3, so I deleted 3.6.2 and started from scratch, same directory name, everything else the same. The install script for the beta said that friendly urls weren't working, check mod_rewrite and so on. I re-checked, and it was still setup properly in Apache. So I deleted the beta and reinstalled 3.6.2 from scratch again, same directory, and it works fine. I don't think I'll continue with the beta, but just wanted to let someone know.

Ok, got it!

System tries to chmod "assets/.htaccess" to 0600.
In fact it is already 0600 but the owner of this (and all other) files of the installation
is owned by a "hosting user" != www-data.
I could fix it as root user...

@developers: please take into account, other installations may not have root rights on their hostings...

Hi all!
Today I did a test install of Silverstripe 4.0.0 Beta 3.
Installtion works fine, but afterwarts I get this warning:

[Warning] chmod(): Operation not permitted

All files and directories of my installation are:
- owned by www-user:www-user
- rights are set to 0664 for files
- rights are set to 0777 for all dirs

This warning comes up on all pages and backend too.

What is wrong here?

Some additional info. I found that my WAMP install will accept a date.timezone = "UTC" but my Debian Linux version won't accept it or anything else. I also have another Linux box that has the date.timezone commented out and it accepted the install.

I am trying to install Silverstripe on a existing server and everything works until I get to the validation and it keeps giving the message "date.timezone option in php.ini must be set correctly." I have tried every valid date setting for west coast America including "America/Los_Angeles", "America/Denver" and "America/Vancouver". None of them work. It is very frustrating because I have no Idea what it wants. I have tried it with double quotes, single quotes, no quotes. Every attempt fails. Any ideas on what to do. I am on php5.6.30

Question on HowTo Create an Affiliate site with SilverStripe

I am working on several projects that I want to build affiliate sites from. Each new affiliate would have the same content and look, but the content would be customized for that affiliate from their configuration settings. I would like each affiliate to be able to have an assigned sub-domain that would access their customized promotional content, lead tracking, etc etc.

So, to be clear, this is what I want to create. The main domain would be the same site that would be customized (but not cloned) for each affiliate. Bob's sub-domain (bob.maindomain.tld) would be a window to his affiliate marketing details, presenting links associated to his affiliate account (http://bob.maindomain.tld/signup, .../invite-others, .../links, .../bobs-profile, etc). The affiliate sub-domain would then be able to have all sub-domain based interactions tracked separately and all traffic sent to that affiliate's sub-domain would stay theirs (they wouldn't loose the traffic that they worked hard to get to other affiliates).

So now that you know what I am looking to accomplish. How would I work with sub-domains, .htaccess files, and silverstripe to serve up the templates and primary content from the maindomain.tld but then fill in appropriate sub-domain based content from the affiliate's data stored in their personal login?

I welcome ideas, code samples, .htaccess file samples, and best practices for running this all with https:// SSL, tracking cookies, etc

My first and greatest focus with this question is working with sub-domains, .htaccess and serving up the same template with custom content on a per sub-domain basis. Please let me know if any of this needs further clarification.

php file info support

Hello there, i am totally new to all this haven't got a clue what to do. I have just downloaded silverstripe 3 to my laptop and then ftp it to my server. when i run install the first warning is php configuration file info support ... fileinfo should be enabled in PHP. SilverStripe uses it for MIME type detection of files. SilverStripe will still operate, but email attachments and sending files to browser (e.g. export data to CSV) may not work correctly without finfo.

All gobbledy Gook to me what do i do ?
I know its probs something simple but really need advice please guys

Just in-case anyone finds this issue on Google, I fixed my issue with this on Ubuntu 16 and PHP7.0 with the following:

sudo apt-get install php7.0-mbstring

If you have installed this already, or you just installed it make sure to enable it:

phpenmod mbstring

followed by:

apachectl graceful

SilverStripe 3.x install not running under PHP version 7

I've just reacquainted myself with the SilverStripe CMS, it's been a few years since last time of use.
This time I had problems to install version 3.5.3 on my hosting provider, the install script stopped during the DB table setup.

Building database schema...

It took a while to find out that the versions 3.x does not run under PHP version 7.
Although there is a patch!
Have a look at: https://github.com/wernerkrauss/silverstripe3-php7

With the patch installation is working beautiful.
So, I'm putting this on the forum for the next in line that might have encounter the same issue.

Upgrade website to 4.0

After upgrading a website to 4.0 I get the following error: Fatal error: Class 'SiteTree' not found, in Page.php.

Or at least can someone put me on the right path of upgrading this. Couldn't really find a good tutorial or anything that says exactly what to do.
What I actually done was: I downloaded from GitHub the latest silverstripe 4.0 and copyied the files over the site ( excluding themes and mysite).

Problems installing Silverstripe 4 alpha6

I tried adjusting the composer.json in the root folder but all it changed is that I went from missing Symfony Classes (ApcuAdapter), to missing classes for PHPUnit (PHPUnit_Framework_TestListener), and finally to missing method CachedConfigCollection::setCache().

Has anyone been able to solve this issue?

How did you install SilverStripe? Via composer or the ZIP/TAR download?

I get:

i checked the apache error log files and found an error saying
"/is/htdocs/wpXXXXXXXX_XXXXXXX/www/asdasdasd/assets/.htaccess: php_flag not allowed here"
I commented the line in the .htaccess file in assets folder and here we go, the admin page loads correctly.

The webhoster is hosteurope.de with package "webhosting basic".

Migrate silverstripe site to an other server

I migrated a site from a local server to a webhoster (shared host) and can not log into the backend anymore. i enter my userdata in login form and get to the page showing the silverstripe logo and the phrase "create the web". Then nothing happens.

All frontend pages work fine.

All server requirements are met by the shared hosting i am migrationg to.

I manually deleted all caches and cache dirs.

When i run the install.php the database connection is said to fail. No surprise! The script tries to use a user that is not defined in the _config.php. When i enter the ones it should use, it accepts them.

Basically a SilverStripe can be copied and should run, as long as you have the database data correct in eithere /_ss_environment.php or /mysite/_config.php. You would not need to reïnstall in any way. The site should work even with an empty /assets folder (which will of course remove all pictures), as long as you have access to the database.

First check if /framework/main.php file actually exists

Then make sure that your .htaccess file points to the right location if, for instance, you're installing in a subdirectory.

Also, if you have a silverstripe-cache directory in your site root, You might want to empty it. If you haven't, the cache is probably setup in your tmp file.

In that case you coud add an empty silverstripe-cache directory to your site root and make it writable. Or you could try a www.yoursite.xx/dev/build?flush to renew the cache. It looks like it might be a cache issue somehow.

Note that if you move a site to another server/location, you should always empty silverstripe-cache (if you have it).

Make sure your site is in dev mode (because live mode will only ever give you that 500 error). If that doesn't help, check your error logs, that may have some more info...

Hi guys, I've just installed SilverStripe 3.5 into a Codeanywhere Container with a PHP Development Stack.

Had a couple of permissions issues that I fixed and a date.timezone not set that I circumvented using .htaccess as I couldn't write to php.ini.

SilverStripe is now installed but I cannot navigate to anything, just says "the page isn't working" -"...is currently unable to handle this request. HTTP ERROR 500"

Dev/build, flush, admin, nothing.

Setting up local environment with existing SilverStripe site

I inherited a SilverStripe site which seems like it's had quite a bit of customization done to it.

The tutorials for the basic setup are great, very straight forward. Now that I've pulled the repo of the existing site, I can't seem to get it up and running on my local environment. When I go to the site i'm getting the following error:

Not Found
The requested URL /framework/main.php was not found on this server.

I'm assuming this is because I haven't really installed SilverStripe on this project and assets are missing, but the install files were removed. Can anyone point me in the right direction to solve this error and get this site running on my local?

Seems the error reporting settings are different on your live server. Generally you want to show every error and notice while developing and hide notices and deprecation warnings on the live machine.

What SilverStripe Version are you using? Can you see anything more in the error logs?

I guess, removeFieldFromTab() throws the deprecation message, as you want to remove from "Root.Content.Main" instead of "Root.Main" where you added the fields.

Deprecation error for custom pages

Hi,

I have been working on a SS website on my desktop (Localhost - Install 3.4.0) . Everything worked perfectly fine, also the 3 additional custom pages that I created.

I just moved all the files to the webserver with a clean install. I can create a normal page, but when I want to create one of the custom pages (HomePage.php) an error appears "Notice at line 214 of /../public_html/framework/dev/Deprecation.php".

I don 't think I used any deprecated coding as I did not see any deprecation errors on my local install. Can anyone please tell me what I am doing wrong? The code that I used for the HomePage.php can be found below.

Sometimes I've same issue on XAMPP. As workaround - just turn off apache server, turn it on again after few seconds and open site URL - should be fine. Of course you've to wait as long as needed (unfortunately) to complete installation in background.

Hello,

probably nothing special is needed. You must remember that there are some differences between Windows and/or Linux.
For example default MySQL/MariaDB settings. On Linux case of table names matters, on Windows not. Unfortunately default setting in XAMPP MySQL is to lower-case all database table names. Due to this it might be hard to just export/import DB. If you develop and/or host your site from Windows - try to always keep in mind that after some time it might be migrated to GNU/Linux platform. If it's apache2 in both cases - just copy/paste all files from one location to another. Unfortunately you'll have to manually adjust export of MySQL DB and take care about table name (for example "virtualpage_live" to "VirtualPage_Live").

Besides that it shouldn't be problematic, but it depends on settings always.

Hello,

RewriteBase should be related to URL in your browser. For example if URL is http://localhost/myProject/ then RewriteBase should be equal to '/myProject'.
When you move to PROD and URL is similar to http://myproject.com/myProject/ - leave RewriteBase untouched. Of course if live site URL is like http://myproject.com/ - you should adjust RewriteBase to '/' - works for me.

Probably you've uploaded your project with some cache files etc. If so, log in via SSH (putty for example) and flush cache from terminal level.

cd /path/to/your/project;
php ./framework/cli-script.php dev/build "flush=all";

should do the trick :)

Building SilverStripe into PHAR file and running on livesite.

Hello,

I've tried to do this on my own but with no big success (a lot of classloader and cache issues). I've tried also to find some module or solution here on forum also without luck. Maybe I'm blind or something - nevertheless I need your help :).

How do I build SilverStripe (could be 3.x) into PHAR file when all modules are installed etc and DB had been built already? It's not about obfuscating or anything like that - I'm also Java developer and I really prefer to have everything in one file instead of few thousands. Furthermore it's possible to protect application from various flaws by signing archive etc. It also makes update process much easier.

Probably I've to leave untouched some dirs for example upload dir, log dir and/or cache if needed/relevant. Is there any "best practice" guide out there or working module for example? Any advice?

Moving local install to live server

I have a local install on my wamp server with the path:

www/beta/abc/001

I have moved this install to the live server with the same path structure:

/beta/abc/001

When I browse to mydomain/beta/abc/001 , I get a 'server error' page - I can't access /admin either. Interestingly the base tag is still referencing localhost??

The RewriteBase '/beta/abc/001' in my htaccess is still the same, so everything should work as the path is still the same. I have also created a new db and imported the data from my local db and updated the settings in mysite/_config.php

The only other way is doing a fresh install on the live server into the sub directory and start again, but I would like to avoid this if possible.

Silverstripe error installing

For those like me that in the last release have difficulty in installing the CMS and do not know how to complete the installation without having to open a support ticket hosting. PHP safe mode directive has been DEPRECATED as of PHP 5.3.0 and REMOVED as of PHP 5.4.0. So if you ask to your hosting to put directive in OFF mode, thay say that the directive is no longer supported.
To bypass the problem you can open the file Loader.php (you find this file in FRAMEWORK/THIRDPARTY/ZEND/) and go to the line 190
and comment the code as below

and you can install the CMS without problem. But if you are italian or of another country you can have problem with the .yml language.
Im my case italian language has a bug. The file of your language is in framework/lang/ directory. Italian file is it.yml during install the CMS say that there is Malformed string in yml. So you can open the file hand search Help2. It's in two different places, around about line 302 and 524
