problems logging in admin area

I installed silverstripe with MAMP on my own computer and have had no problems. But I am having problems with the login and passwords with my installation on iis6. Everytime I want to login I need to reset my password. Once I login it takes me to a blank screen. I have to manually redirect the page to the admin page. The admin page works, but it is frustrating to reset my password everytime I login. This site that will have multiple users, which will not go over well at all. I need a solution to this a.s.a.p or will have to come up with others solutions. I have tried the Security::setDefaultAdmin($username, $password) in the _config file , but this isn't recognized at all. I am not sure what to do. I really need help. Any suggestions?

ps. I have tried a fresh install and transferring my MAMP installation, both are having the same problems.

Hi,

I published a new web site for a software company in Turkish, based on Silverstripe.

Here is the link

We used UserDefinedForms, Dataobjectmanager modules (thank you very much to their developers) and the web site template is purchased from Themeforest, after some modifications converted to SS.

The web site is simple but holding a lot of information. Here you can see that it contains multiple-level page structure.

Sadly I can find no record of what happened to it but I can verify that it was added to the site. One thing thats odd is no image file is there. It could be possible the image was corrupted and someone removed the page because the image was missing, You should have been emailed when this action took place. I'm not sure why you weren't. I will ask around and see if anyone knows why this happened.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad.
I'm afraid this forum isn't the right place to ask, as these .ss files have nothing to do with Silverstripe; it's a coincidence that they have the same extension.
You'll have more luck looking for a file-recovery forum or something specific to the word processor in question.

Try googling for "Recover files from word processor" or something like this.
I see some tools for Sharp Font Writer files here: http://semiprime.com/fontwriter
Otherwise, you can see what can be extracted using a Hex Editor (try http://sourceforge.net/projects/hexplorer). This will probably allow you to copy any plain text out, but won't preserve any formatting, or anything like that.

Anyone know how to read .ss files

My dad died and he has some information on 3.5" floppy discs that are .ss files. These were created on a Sharp Font Writer - Personal Word Processor.
On my PC I have tried everything but cannot get them to open in an intelligible format, nothing works, not excel, not notepad or word etc.
Anyone got any ideas how I can open these files legibly to save them onto my PC?

Did you ever get an answer to your question? You might get a better response if you were more specific about what you need help with as well as posted it in more relevant forum section (e.g., "Template Questions".)

Have you completed the tutorials at http://doc.silverstripe.org/doku.php?id=tutorials? That will get you pointed in the right direction.

If you wanted to make an editable sidebar with an image and content, you could do something like the following in your Page.php.

This will create a "Sidebar" tab in the CMS admin that you can add an image and text to.

Just a warning regarding the statement Sigurd made:
If you're uploading large images, the server might run out of memory real quick... this happens frequently with images straight from digital cams and a low PHP memory setting.
Imagine a common 12 megapixel image: 4000 x 3000 pixels ≈ 46 MB Ram. Together with the memory used by SilverStripe, this can lead to memory shortage real quick.

I usually recommend users to upload images in sizes about 1024 x 768 or 1600 x 1200. This is large enough for most purposes but doesn't consume that much memory and upload time. The problem is, that some users don't know how to resize images or that it's a cumbersome thing to do for lots of images. In this cases, I recommend the usage of a batch tool like Automator (Apple), Photoshop Droplet or other.

Edit Ugh. Stupid me. I overlooked the fact that this is about the Showcase images. I guess the SilverStripe Server has plenty of memory available, so go ahead. My post was more of a general warning regarding large images and SilverStripe Websites.

Just gone live: my online portfolio at portfolio.nugob.org

It comes with a couple of nice features such as embedded video/audio, JW Player and Imagerotator, MooTools Slimbox image galleries, some other MooTools effects, and Cooliris browser plugin support via Atom Mediafeed. All no problem thanks to Silverstripe, the by far most flexible open source CMS I know.

A million thanks again to all Silverstripe developers and contributors, and especially to UncleCheese for the really brilliant Dataobject Manager that powers most pages of the site.

Pretty easy to work through and setup. It's based on jquery.

If you're logged in as the user who posted a website on the showcase, you should be able to see a "Delete" link when browsing the showcase.
