Introducing Stack Metrics on Silverstripe Cloud

We’re excited to announce the addition of stack metrics to Silverstripe Cloud—designed to give both technical and non-technical members of your team insight into your website’s performance, and support the best possible experience for your website users.

Metrics at your fingertips

Stack metrics are available now for all Silverstripe Cloud users. From your Developer Dashboard, simply click to view one of your environments and select the Metrics tab where you’ll be able to view:

• How many inbound requests are coming into your website 
• How long it takes for pages on your site to load
• How many queries are running per minute against the database

These metrics were chosen so that both technical and non-technical members of your team can gain a better insight into how your website is performing on Silverstripe Cloud, and whether your current stack sizing is suitable for the amount of traffic that your website is handling.

Metrics are available for the previous seven days at a one minute resolution, allowing you to monitor and drill down into certain periods using the interactive graphs.

Each graph also contains a quick shortcut to the centralised logging solution for Silverstripe Cloud. This displays all relevant server logs for the selected time period, and allows the ability to mark deployments as vertical lines, helping you to identify whether a recent change affected your website performance.

Experience improvements led by our users  

By understanding how users interact with our products, we aim to improve their experience. In late-2018, our Product Team reached out to Silverstripe Cloud users, who described a need to more easily visualise site performance, accurately diagnose problems, pre-empt potential issues, and measure the impact of improvements.

Stack metrics was designed to give Silverstripe Cloud users more confidence to independently assess performance-related issues and evaluate outcomes.
