Last Wednesday, SilverStripe welcomed the Wellington SilverStripe community to our Wellington HQ for the first meetup in 2018.
Meetups are always an excellent way for local communities to meet, share knowledge and have a laugh or two. For this meetup, we heard two fantastic presentations that provided the community with some insights into various possibilities of how the SilverStripe CMS can be utilised to create innovative solutions.
Dylan Wagstaff (Developer @SilverStripe) presented an inside view of what SilverStripe 4 is all about, as well as the best approach to upgrading to SilverStripe 4. We trust the community will find this valuable as many of you are in the process of or are about to start upgrading.
The title of the presentation was "Where to get started with SS4, so your project swims along just nicely" (Press S for speaker notes). Dylan provided a comprehensive overview of how to approach SilverStripe updates as well as a few gotchas worth adhering to. For those of you based in the Canterbury area, you can hear Dylan speak at our Christchurch Meetup on June 13.
The second presentation, titled “Searching for a search solution?”, was presented by the dynamic duo, Charlie Bergthaler (Solution Architect @SilverStripe) and Marco Hermo (Developer @SilverStripe). The presentation was split into two parts. The first was presented by Charlie, who provided an overview of various search integrations that can be used, such as Solr or Swiftype.
The second part, presented by Marco, looked closely at an actual application of a search solution on an example Real Estate website. Check out Marco and Charlie's slides for more information (git repository etc) on how you can help to finish the module.
