SilverStripe hosts Auckland Women in Tech Panel

As part of our support for the Summer of Tech internship programme SilverStripe are hosting a Women in Tech panel tonight in at GridAKL in Auckland. The panel will be growing and enhancing a career with four accomplished women making their mark in New Zealand’s tech industry sharing their insights. This is not an exclusive “women only” event, men are also warmly welcome, but we want to provide a technology-focused event women are excited to attend, and where they won’t be in the minority.

The event is being hosted for Summer of Tech students but we have 10 tickets available to SilverStripe guests. If you're interested in coming along email our Development Manager Clarion to secure your place. It will be a great chance to meet others and hear how others are succeeding in the tech industry.

Facilitated by Irene Gardiner (television producer, media commentator and Content Director of NZ On Screen), the panel will share stories and experiences about their career paths, talk about the challenges they have faced, and give advice to students starting their tech careers. We’ll then open the floor for a Q&A session. Attendees will also have an opportunity to connect over drinks and nibbles.

Irene is NZ On Screen’s Director, but also has a long background in television producing, and is a former TVNZ Head of Commissioning. As well as her NZ On Screen work, and freelance Executive Producing, Irene is also a regular media commentator and television reviewer on radio and television.

From developer to solutions architect, Cara has worked in various business domains (software development, banking and publishing) in Auckland and London over the past ten years. Cara loves solving problems with software and is currently a Senior Software Engineer at Pushpay. When she's not at work, Cara can be found chasing birds with her sixteen month old daughter.

Lisa is an Agile Coach at Xero. She started working in software development in 2007 as an entrepreneur, developing her own online business. This quickly evolved, and in 2009 she joined the (online?) games industry as a Product Manager. In 2010 the company introduced Agile. Lisa's passion for helping people be their best, and her broad knowledge of process and product meant that her evolution into Agile Coaching was both natural and fortuitous.

Mahsa is a senior lecturer and the Outreach Development Manager at Unitec Institute of Technology. As part of her role, Mahsa has led a push to promote computer science in high schools as a career option. She is the founder and director of She# ("She Sharp"), a networking platform for girls and women in technology.

Nic is the Chief Delivery Officer at Vend, responsible for the Product and Engineering teams who deliver delight to Vend retailers. Working in tech teams in Holland and London for many years, she returned to New Zealand in 2008 and has since became passionate about "NZ Inc”. She believes building the very best teams and places to work makes New Zealand better for everyone.
