The August London meetup saw talks by Aram Balakjian of SSBits and Carbon Crayon fame and Will Morgan (one of the core committers).
Aram spoke about the challenges faced when building a fully accessible micro-social-network for the visually impaired. Challenges around design conventions and dealing with screen readers (and other assistive software) were issues on top of usual stakeholder requirements. Aram explained some of his thinking behind creative and technical approach to this project.
Will was able to talk to the community about how to produce good modules and be a conscientious community member when releasing modules. We learnt some lessons about how to structure our code whether it’s public or not.
This was also the first of SilverStripe’s meetups to be sponsored by JetBrains and, as a result, we were able to give one lucky attendee an annual personal licence to any JetBrains’ software. To decide who the lucky attendee was we played a spontaneous rock, paper, scissors knockout tournament. A deserved winner was had in the form of Daniel Jackson - well done.
