Speaker Spotlights
In our first speaker spotlight announcement, we introduced half of the speakers who will be presenting on the day. Let’s now introduce the remaining speakers and learn a bit more about who they are and what they will be talking about.
Aaron Carlino | @_UncleCheese_
Aaron Carlino, better known by his whimsical pseudonym Uncle Cheese, has been an active member of the SilverStripe community since 2007, and has never looked back. In that time, he has established himself as a support resource, mentor, and contributor of some of the framework's most popular open source modules
Aaron will discuss the philosophy and approach to building a modern, API driven application with SilverStripe 4. With the recent release of SilverStripe 4 and growing interest in APIs, Aaron will outline and showcase the scaffolding features of the GraphQL module to get you up and running with an API in minutes.
Jacinta Cali | @Cali33
In the once male dominated field of technology, a Queenslander who fell in love with the Illawarra, Jacinta is a bright creative spark and emerging leader in the ICT industry. She has 10 years experience designing, managing, directing, and pioneering, including recent years as shareholder and working director at local digital technology powerhouse Internetrix. Adept at running cross-functional teams, she applies full tilt energy as head of website projects. Jacinta likes nothing better than a challenge to combine her flair for design with rigorous methodology to shine in the digital world.
Jacinta will talk about the things we should always do (in the code) to make our SilverStripe sites accessible. Jacinta considers accessibility to be the responsibility of both designers and developers when building websites. A holistic approach to accessibility on the web helps to remind us the importance of user centered design and development.
John Milmine | @pitchandtone
John works as the Technical Director for DNA and has been there for over 7 years and has over 10 years experience in web development. John has a Bachelor of Design and consequently has a strong design sense when developing websites and web applications. John is often the first person engaged to break down complex problems, understand business and technical context. He's very adept at responding to unique situations and calmly shaping an approach and team which will deliver exceptional results.
Paul Clarke | @clarkepaul
Paul has a solid background in the design industry and brings a fusion of creative flair and technical knowledge to his projects. Paul joined the SilverStripe design team after returning from Hong Kong, where he worked as a graphic designer and front-end developer. He studied both graphic design and web development and, combined with his previous commercial print experience, he brings a great deal of versatility to his role. Paul believes there's plenty of room for improvement to both the functionality and aesthetics of most websites and his aim is just that–improve the web. Paul is UX Lead Designer here at SilverStripe.
John and Paul will both be presenting on the topic of content blocks. As shown by the proliferation of content block modules created by the open source community, creating and managing content using blocks has its benefits. We’ll learn why the Elemental module was chosen to be commercially supported content block module, how the module delivers a better experience to CMS users as well as the challenges faced when developing and designing with content blocks.
See you at StripeCon!
A big thank you to our sponsors and speakers for helping to make this all happen.
