Powells wanted a new website which could accommodate lots of high resolution photography but also load quickly and efficiently (as a lot of their customers are using less than perfect connections). They also needed the site to scale nicely and load quickly on mobile devices. Because of this we made use of deferred images (loading a very low resolution image first and using JavaScript to load the full version after the page has loaded). Using SilverStripe for this project meant that we could get the site to automatically generate both high and low resolution images from one uploaded source image and then switch out the new images as required. We also added a very simple product catalogue that allows the client to update their properties, categories, tags and images via a CSV upload.
