Whānau Ora is a culturally-based wellbeing initiative that places the family at the centre of their decision-making.
Their mission is to support New Zealand whānau to succeed in areas such as health, education, employment, improved standards of living and cultural identity, and assist them in achieving their goals and aspirations.
Working with Whānau Ora, we discovered that people who needed support didn’t know where to start, where to go and who to talk to.
Thinking about the key problem that people were facing, we set about creating a new website that focuses on putting whānau in touch with the right people. We designed and built the website with a new look and feel, and a strong Māori and cultural influence, keeping the site as simple and straightforward as possible.
The key functionality of the site focuses on whānau identifying what support they need. They then pass their details on to one of the local Kaiārahi (Navigators) who will follow up to help whānau navigate the different pathways in reaching their goals. This was done using a “navigator tool” which guides users step by step through the process, using a conversational and approachable tone and making it as easy as possible to get the support they needed.
We thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to bring this new human-focused experience to life working with Whānau Ora. We’re really excited to see how a simple change can help support whānau and their goals.
The new Whānau Ora website we’ve been working on went live on 25th February 2019.
